Lockheed Martin’s mysterious SR-72 — the fastest plane ever

In 2013, Lockheed Martin announced development of the successor to the SR-71 Blackbird spy plane.

The SR-71 was capable of reaching speeds over three times the speed of sound, and the SR-72 is intended to have even more impressive specs. Following is a transcript of the video.

The SR-72 is the successor to the SR-71 Blackbird spy plane, which was the fastest plane to ever exist.

Built by Lockheed Martin in the 1960s, the SR-71 could reach speeds exceeding Mach 3 (above 2,200 mph). That's over 3 times faster than the speed of sound. The recon jets went out of service in 1998.

Development of the SR-72 was announced in 2013.

It will be headed by "Skunk Works," Lockheed's advanced development program. Lockheed calls the SR-72 a "game changer." The jet will be an unmanned hypersonic aircraft.

Lockheed claims it will reach speeds topping Mach 6 — over 4,500 mph — and they also want the jet to do more than just recon missions, including the ability to strike targets.

Experts say the jet could reach anywhere in the world within an hour.

Rumors of sightings have flooded the internet. Recently, an unmanned aircraft was seen at a Skunk Works facility. Reports say it could have been an early test for the SR-72. Lockheed confirmed plans to fly a research vehicle in the early 2020s.

If all goes well, it may not be long before the fastest plane ever hits the skies.

WORLDS FASTEST Aircraft US Air Force SR-71 Blackbird Mini Documentary

A great Mini Documentary video on the world famous US Air Force aircraft the SR-71 Blackbird that was used for observation flights over the Soviet Union.
BEALE AIR FORCE BASE, Calif.–Twenty-six years ago today, Beale said goodbye to the fastest air-breathing jet in the world, the SR-71 Blackbird.

The Blackbird was an advanced, long-range, supersonic strategic reconnaissance aircraft that called Beale Air Force Base home from January 1966 to January 1990.

But for Master Sgt. Floyd Jones (ret.) and a local group of former Blackbird maintainers, the mission continues, not with turning wrenches, but with the same elbow grease.

"It's not glamorous but it needs to be done," said Jones, who worked on the Blackbird for nearly 20 years.

Floyd and members of The Blackbird Maintainers group wash and scrub down the SR-71 periodically to ensure the static display is looking its best.

"It's a beautiful aircraft," said Master Sgt. (ret.) John Olp, a 10-year Blackbird veteran. "But some of the local wildlife prefer to roost on it."

Local birds, weather, wind and dust are all contributing factors that lead to the Blackbird getting an occasional bath.

"We try not to let it get too dirty," Jones said. "We take a pressure washer to it and scrub it down, it takes a couple of hours but we have a goodtime with it."

In addition to the Blackbird Maintainers, the 9th Maintenance Squadron intermittently performs spot cleaning on the aircraft.

Jones said that for many former maintainers it's just another way to reconnect with fellow servicemen and trade "war stories" about the Air Force and the aircraft they enjoyed working on.

"It's a rare plane," Jones said. "We have to take care of it for future generations to cherish."

Developed in secrecy by Lockheed's Skunk Works division in Palmdale, California, only 32 were built. None were ever lost to enemy action.

"This jet was ahead of its time," Jones said. "We all love this aircraft and none of us mind taking care of her into the retirement years."

WORLDS LARGEST Flying Boat Jet Aircraft for Russian Military

A great video of the worlds largest flying boat aircraft.
A flying boat is a fixed-winged seaplane with a hull, allowing it to land on water, that usually has no type of landing gear to allow operation on land.[1] It differs from a floatplane as it uses a purpose-designed fuselage which can float, granting the aircraft buoyancy. Flying boats may be stabilized by under-wing floats or by wing-like projections (called sponsons) from the fuselage. Flying boats were some of the largest aircraft of the first half of the 20th century, exceeded in size only by bombers developed during World War II. Their advantage lay in using water instead of expensive land-based runways, making them the basis for international airlines in the interwar period. They were also commonly used for maritime patrol and air-sea rescue.
Their use gradually trailed off after World War II, partially because of the investments in airports during the war. In the 21st century, flying boats maintain a few niche uses, such as dropping water on forest fires, air transport around archipelagos, and access to undeveloped areas. Many modern seaplane variants, whether float or flying boat types, are convertible amphibious aircraft where either landing gear or flotation modes may be used to land and take off.

Cessna Citation CJ4 – LunaJets, Private jets at the best price

Cessna's first production Citation CJ4 flew in May 2009, with the first delivery coming the following year. It is the newest and largest member of the CJ family and has rapidly gained great popularity, particularly in Europe. This is partly due to the CJ4's excellent interior, which, having been lengthened to 5.29m, is more spacious than all the other aircraft in the CJ range, comfortably accommodating up to 7 passengers. With a range of over 3700km and a top speed of 839kmh, the CJ4 is one of the highest performing Light Jets on the market. It is also offers great take off and landing capabilities, enabling it to access airports with short runways, such as Lugano or St Tropez, which are often more convenient. The state-of-the-art weather radar system allows it to detect potentially disruptive weather far in advance and, therefore, avoid turbulence, guaranteeing a smoother flight. The CJ4 provides an impressive service, getting you closer to your destination in great comfort and in excellent time.

Breaking News – Boeing-backed, hybrid-electric plane to hit market in 2022

A Seattle-area startup, backed by the venture capital arms of Boeing Co and JetBlue Airways Corp announced plans on Thursday to bring a small hybrid-electric commuter aircraft to market by 2022.The small airliner is the first of several planes planned by Zunum Aero, which said it would seat up to 12 passengers and be powered by two electric motors, dramatically reducing the travel time and cost of trips under 1,000 miles (1,600 km).Zunum's plans and timetable underscore a rush to develop small electric aircraft based on rapidly evolving battery technology and artificial intelligence systems that avoid obstacles on a road or in the sky.Zunum Aero is working to develop 'hybrid to electric;' craft that 'sip fuel only when they have to.' It’s hoped that this will make electric air travel more affordable, with frequent service across more than 5,000 regional and general aviation airports in the US. The firm claims these resources are currently underutilized. According to Zunum Aero, this means passengers traveling from regional airports in the Boston area to Washington DC, for example, would reach their destination in half the time, and at half the fare. In heavily-trafficked routes, this could decrease travel time by 40 percent. And, in areas with less congestion, it could even drop door-to-door times 80 percent. The firm says hybrid-electric propulsion will also allow for an 80 percent drop in emissions – and eventually, as battery densities improve, emissions could drop to zero.In a separate but related development, Boeing said on Thursday it plans to acquire a company that specializes in electric and autonomous flight to help its own efforts to develop such aircraft.Several companies, including Uber Technologies Inc and European planemaker Airbus, are working on electric-powered self-flying cars.Zunum does not expect to be the first to certify an electric-powered aircraft with regulators.Rather, it is aiming to fill a market gap for regional travel by airlines, where private jets and commercial jetliners are too costly for many to use.Zunum's planes would fly from thousands of small airports around big cities to cut regional travel times and costs."Airlines are very keen to know how to fly a shorter distance and make money on it," Matt Knapp, co-founder and chief aeronautic engineer of the Kirkland, Washington-based company, said in an interview.A flight from Silicon Valley to Los Angeles, for instance, would leave from Palo Alto, San Carlos, Hayward or Reid Hillview airports and arrive in Santa Monica, Burbank, Hawthorne or San Gabriel Valley airports. The cost would be about $120 one way, the company said. The travel time of over four hours would be cut in half by avoiding the crowds and security lines at big hubs that are required for larger planes.About 96 percent of U.S. air traffic travels through 1 percent of its airports, leaving thousands of small airports virtually untapped, Knapp said.Electric-vehicle batteries, such as those made by Tesla Inc and Panasonic Corp, would power Zunum's motors, although Zunum has no commitment with either company.A supplemental jet-fuel engine and electrical generator would be used to give the plane a range of 700 miles and ensure it stays aloft after the batteries are exhausted, Knapp saidZunum plans to make a larger plane seating up to 50 passengers at the end of the next decade, and the range of both would increase to about 1,000 miles as battery technology improves, Knapp said. The planes eventua1

WORST NIGHTMARE for Russian Military !!! US Navy X-47B stealth aircraft

The US military X-47B UAV will serve the US navy well and will be the worst nightmare for the Russian military. The Northrop Grumman X-47B is a demonstration unmanned combat air vehicle (UCAV) designed for carrier-based operations.
The US Navy has successfully catapulted a prototype drone from an aircraft carrier on Tuesday, which is the first step in a program designed to begin fielding drones on all Navy carriers between 2017 and 2020.

The flight serves as a milestone for the future of drone aviation, and US Navy officers have celebrated the success of its launch. But the flight of the unmanned aircraft, which is the size of a fighter jet, is likely to become the subject of criticism from those who believe drone usage hurts the US image – especially since drones are behind many civilian deaths on foreign grounds.

Critics have already condemned the Navy’s $1.4 billion drone prototype program, relaying their concerns over the development of weaponized systems in which humans will have even less control over when it comes to launching attacks.

Human Rights Watch has particularly protested the development of drones that carry weapons and are fully autonomous, like the X-47B unmanned aircraft that the Navy launched from the USS George H.W. Bush on Tuesday. This unmanned aircraft can reach an altitude of more than 40,000 feet and has a range of more than 2,100 nautical miles, the Associated Press reports.

This model is particularly valuable because it has the capability to take off and land on an aircraft carrier. Developing such drones would allow the US to launch strikes from anywhere in the world, regardless of whether or not a foreign country allows the US on its grounds.

The drone is fully autonomous in flight, and relies on computer programs to direct it – unless an operator programs it to operate otherwise. Most drones currently employed by the military fully rely on operators to control it from a remote location.

While the X-47B is only intended for testing purposes rather than operational use, the Navy will use it for research purposes to develop advanced unmanned aircraft for use in future conflicts. When it comes to using lethal force, the X-47B still requires human approval. But Human Rights Watch believes the prototype research will lead to the development of drones that conduct deadly attacks with no human intervention.

Steve Goose, director of the arms division at Human Rights Watch, expressed some of his fears with AP.

“For us, the question is where do you draw lines?” he said. “We’re saying you need to draw the line when you have a fully autonomous system that is weaponized. We’re saying you must have meaningful human control over key battlefield decisions of who lives and who dies. That should not be left up to the weapons system itself.”

But despite fears over the future of fully autonomous drones that can launch deadly attacks from aircraft carriers, the Navy is hailing the flight of its prototype as a success it has long sought.

“US Navy history is made!” the Navy wrote from its official Twitter account. “Was airborne at 11:18A. More to come.”

The Navy plans to release videos and photographs of the event, which Read Adm. Mat Winter wrote marks “an inflection point in history on how we will integrate manned and unmanned aircraft on carrier flight decks in the future.”

5 Super Sized Drones You Can Ride – 2016 – Piloted drone

Over the past few years, some people have taken drones from small almost toy devices for carrying cameras to mini aircraft that are capable carrying a single person.

Patreon :

You can now translate this and other curious droid videos, see my video about it here

EHang 184
The Ehang 184 created a huge buzz when it was debuted at CES 2016. They claim it is the world's first fully autonomous helicopter drone.
The Ehang 184 is a 200Kg, eight-rotor aircraft which the company claims it is able to lift a single 100kg person, up 500 metres into the air and fly them at up to 100Kmph to any point on Google Maps, avoiding objects automatically and safely handling take-off and landing all without the need for any piloting skills from the person being carried.
The range is as far as it could fly with the 23 minutes of flight time afforded by the batteries which a recharge time of 2 hours.
Ehang is keen to point out that in the event of the drone experiencing problems, human pilots housed in a custom built "command centres" will be able to take over and guide you to safety.

16 Most Luxurious First Class Airlines

From Business Class to First Class and beyond Here are 16 Most Luxurious First Class Airlines! Would you fly in one of these crazy

Subscribe to Talltanic

9. Air France
Air France’s La Première cabin looks more like a lounge in a house or office rather than on an airplane. The space in their first class section is open, with lots of room to walk around when you’re allowed to. If you feel like you need more privacy, you can close off your area with a curtain and rest your feet on the ottoman that comes with your seat. Plus, the seats are supposedly memory foam, which is a plus for any comfort fanatics out there.

8. Cathay Pacific
Some first class cabins on Cathay Pacific flights only have six seats, and it makes sense. When you have as much room for a bed, storage, tv, and an amenity kit that comes with high end toiletries and sleepwear.

7. Air India
On air India’s website, it says you can find the “true meaning of luxury” and do so while sinking “your feet into the plush carpet.” Their seats are 180 degree reclining, which means you get a bed. This guy looks like he’s having the best, most relaxing time. Every first class flyer is ensured a window seat as there are no in-between seats available to make room for the pod-like seating arrangement. And don’t worry, they do in fact serve Indian food and it’s supposed to be very, very good.

6. Virgin Atlantic Upper Class
Virgin Atlantic doesn’t even wait for you to get to the airport to start your Upper Class experience. A limo can come pick you up to take you to the airport. After that, you end up at the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse where airline customers have the option of chilling with a drink, some food, wifi, or, if you like, a haircut as the clubhouse usually has a salon or spa. When you’re on the plane, a nice flat bed waits for you in herringbone seating patterns to give you as much space as possible. On top of all these nice amenities you get for paying first class prices, seating arrangement is free. And when you get back home? There’s a limo for that, too.

5. Asiana First Class Suite
There are usually 12 seats, or suites, in the Asiana First Class cabin. While it’s not the biggest amount of space, it’s pretty ample, plus you can completely close your suite off. The television they also provide is 32” and is possibly the largest screen any airline carries. The luxury seat folds out into a bed, which measures at 210 cm long. There’s a personal mini bar and an extra seat should a companion visit you.

4. Qatar First Class
While the seating arrangements are roomy on these first class flights, at first glance, Qatar’s First Class cabin doesn’t look that different from most other luxury airlines on this list. However, the reviews are high for this one and it probably has to do with all the little things that can make a difference. First off, their first class in Al Safwa are something else in itself. There’s a mini hotel, a prayer room, a spa, duty free shops, and workstations all in a setting that looks like it’s from some high-tech future. The seats in the cabin do appear a little wider and is designed with more open space instead of secluded ones. Plus, there’s a bar onboard complete with a bartender and some treats.

3. Emirates
Not only does Emirate’s first class offer you all the benefits of most other first class airlines like generous leg room, tv, fancy food, and drinks–you can even get what they call “moisturizing sleepwear” where the fabric is said to release nutrients from sea kelp to prevent dry skin from dehydration and–for those really long flights–the pajamas help stimulate circulation, too.

2. Singapore Airlines
Singapore Airlines is rated as one of the top if not the top luxury airline to ride in. At over $20,000 dollars, you can experience their world-class service on your way to your vacation. The cabins are more train-like than most first class planes designed them. You essentially have your own room with a bed and tv. The chairs are separate from the bed, something unique in first class cabins. Singapore Airlines become the first airline to have double beds. And if any of that doesn’t scream “fancy” then the room covered in rose petals with a bottle of champagne on a fancy tray doesn’t should assure you this is an experience reserved for the glamorous.

1. Etihad Apartments
Flying at the top of first class on Etihad gives you two options: an apartment or a suite. Yup, an apartment and a suite. It’s the roomiest you can get on a major airline when you’re being told you can stay somewhere usually reserved for buildings that come with a nightly charge or rent. Forget a curtain or a cubicle. Here, you can close your own doors. The apartment comes with a vanity unit and an onboard shower.

USAF to buy unclaimed Russian 747s for Air Force One replacement

Before his inauguration, President Donald Trump raged about how the US Air Force's program to replace its two aging VC-25A aircraft—the heavily modified 747-200 aircraft known as Air Force One when in service—was too expensive. Via Twitter, he declared that the cost of the program was out of control and said, "Cancel order!"

But the Air Force has pressed on with its plans to purchase two newer 747-8 aircraft to replace the existing presidential transports, for good reason: the VC-25As currently in service have been flying since the George H.W. Bush administration. Fortunately, the Air Force has managed to find a way to save on the $386.8 million price tag for each of the two 747-8s needed—with a little help from Russia.

As Defense One's Marcus Weisberger reports, Boeing has two completed 747-8 aircraft that were ordered in 2013 by the Russian airline Transaero, which used to be Russia's second-largest air carrier. But Transaero went bankrupt two years after placing the order and making partial payment for the planes. Russia's Aeroflot acquired Transaero's operations, but the airline decided not to complete the purchase of the two 747s. That left Boeing stuck with two completed, flight-tested aircraft and no buyer. Five months ago, the planes were flown to a storage facility in the Mojave Desert to preserve them until Boeing could find someone to take them off its hands.

The Air Force came to the (somewhat delayed) rescue and is currently negotiating a deal for the aircraft. In a prepared statement, Air Force spokesperson Ann Stefanek told the press, "We're working through the final stages of coordination to purchase two commercial 747-8 aircraft and expect to award a contract soon."

Aero-TV: Billion Dollar Deal – NetJets Big Buy with Embraer

Biggest BizJet Order At NBAA Raises Eyebrows… And Hopes For Recovery
It’s a pretty big deal when an airplane company gets a sizable order for new aircraft. Embraer had such a day during the NBAA meeting and convention when NetJets announced it would be purchasing 125 Phenom 300s for its fractional jet service.
The Platinum Edition aircraft, designed exclusively for NetJets, will feature technology and comforts based on the requirements of the NetJets fractional share Owners. The two companies have entered into a 10-year fleet plan that will provide the company’s fractional jet owners with the fleet options, safety, service and reliability they have come to expect from the worldwide leader in private aviation.
Owner research and a comprehensive view of flight patterns and service requirements contributed to the decision to select the Phenom 300. In addition, NetJets says an extensive analysis was conducted at NetJets by multiple, cross-disciplinary teams representing flight crews, maintenance, flight operations, safety, sales, finance and owner services.
The Phenom 300 Platinum Edition will be developed by Embraer in cooperation with NetJets. The jets will feature technology and comforts based on the requirements of the NetJets fractional share Owners. Deliveries of the new aircraft are scheduled to begin in 2013 and will be executed in accordance with ongoing fleet management plans.

Bombardier Global corporate jets 5000 6000 7000 8000 Series

Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc., NetJets is paying attention why aren't investors? BBD.B on the TSX

NetJets Inc., the business-jet operator owned by Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (BRK/A), said it placed a record order for as many as 120 Bombardier Inc. (BBD/B) planes in anticipation of a rebound in luxury travel.

The agreement, worth more than $6.7 billion at list prices, comprises 50 firm orders and 70 options, according to a statement. How much Columbus, Ohio-based NetJets would pay for the aircraft, which will be delivered starting in the fourth quarter of 2012, wasn't disclosed.

NetJets, which also ordered 125 Embraer SA (ERJ) jets in October, said it expects the planes' arrival to help meet increasing demand following what will probably be a "difficult" 2011. The unit made a profit last year after David Sokol, named by Buffett to lead a turnaround in 2009, fired staff and wrote down plane values.

The firm orders include 30 of Montreal-based Bombardier's Global 5000 Vision and Global Express XRS Vision aircraft, which will be delivered starting next year. The deal also includes 20 firm orders for Bombardier's new Global 7000 and Global 8000 jets, which will be handed over starting in 2017.

Amazing Short Take-Off Gulfstream G650 – Special Livery

The Gulfstream G650 has a truly astonishing performance what can be seen in the video. The G650 achieved an impressive short take-off distance at Bern Airport in Switzerland. The two powerful Rolls-Royce BR725 engines accelerate the G650 nearly to the speed of sound while cruising at up to 51,000 feet (15,500 m). The first Swiss registered G650 HB-IVJ has been given a special livery. It advertises for Baha Mar, the luxury resort of superlatives in the Bahamas.

REVERSE THRUST
The pilots engaged the reverse thrust during taxi to slow down the plane. Why didn't they use the wheel brakes instead? The reverser helps to keep the wheel brakes cool and fully operational when needed. Braking excessively does not only wear out the brakes more quickly but increases the danger of glowing hot wheel brakes. Cooling them down takes plenty of time until the aircraft is allowed take off again.

GULFSTREAM G650
The Gulfsream Aerospace G650 is marketed as the world's current fastest business jet with a top speed of 0.925 Mach (982 km/h). It is capable of traveling 8'055 miles (12,964 km) and will even cruise at 51,000 ft. The remarkable jet is equipped with two powerful Rolls-Royce BR725 turbofan engines. Enjoy the great engine sound and the close-up view of the Gulfstream G650, one of the best private jets on the market.
