Biltmore Estate, Asheville, NC

We are about to enter the main house. Weather was picture perfect this day. The house is 1750,000 square feet and has 250 rooms. It was built by George Washington Vanderbilt III between 1889-1895. It is still owned by one of the Vanderbilt’s decendants. The detail on the exterior and interior is remarkable. They dont make buildings like this anymore.  Currently our 2 senior editors are in the area.  They will be visiting the home on 9/7/2011.

Biltmore Estate Asheville, NC

These two clips were recorded by my mother during our trip to see the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. We were taking the Architects tour in these two clips. She unknowingly set her camera to high sensitivity so that explains why the video looks white. And iMovie decided to omit the sound upon exporting so that’s why there’s no sound.

Biltmore Estate Kitchen Garden – Asheville, North Carolina

Join us as we enjoy an afternoon stroll through the Biltmore Estate Kitchen Garden. It is remarkable that, through the years, the Biltmore Estate has been preserved without any public funds. There is no comparable story of the preservation of such a property for public use and enjoyment in our country. Perhaps even more outstanding than the Chateau itself are the elaborate grounds and gardens designed by America’s most honored landscape architect, Frederick Law Olmsted. Olmsted called the Biltmore Estate “the first great private work of our profession in the country.” No serious gardener should fail to visit the beautiful Biltmore Gardens, which begin displaying their gorgeous blooms in April and continue to exhibit an ever-changing display of nature’s beauty until the leaves fall in October. Friends, neighbors, or family kids going off to college? Enjoy the BONUS, extended Schiff Radio clip regarding student loans and the rising cost of college tuition. Send to friends and family you feel may appreciate it too!
